A SICILIAN LANDMARK WITH A REMARKABLE HISTORY

Villa Igiea began a new chapter at the end of the nineteenth century when the influential Florio family acquired the former Villa Domville. Ignazio and Franca Florio commissioned the celebrated Palermitan architect Ernesto Basile, a leading figure of the Sicilian Liberty movement, to transform it into a grand hotel. The frescoed Sala Basile, elegant terraces and tiered gardens still tell the story of Palermo’s Belle Époque.

After being acquired by Rocco Forte Hotels in 2019, the landmark was carefully restored under the creative direction of Olga Polizzi in collaboration with Paolo Moschino Ltd. Historic details were preserved and balanced with a lighter, contemporary interpretation of Sicilian style.

BETWEEN CITY AND SEA

The location is one of Villa Igiea’s greatest strengths. Guests can discover Palermo’s markets, palazzi, churches and vibrant street life, then return to the calm of a resort overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is this rare combination – cultural city break and Mediterranean retreat – that makes the hotel particularly attractive for a longer stay.

The hotel now offers 100 rooms and suites, including 59 guestrooms, 13 junior suites and 28 suites. Many categories look towards the gardens or the Gulf of Palermo. For a special occasion, the historic suites and spacious sea-view accommodations add a strong sense of place; the right choice depends on the preferred view, terrace and room configuration.

SICILIAN FLAVOURS AND SLOW MOMENTS

Dining is an essential part of the experience. Florio Restaurant celebrates Mediterranean ingredients in an elegant setting, while the Igiea Terrazza Bar invites guests to linger over an aperitivo with views across the water. In season, Alicetta brings a relaxed bistro atmosphere to the terraces between garden and sea.

The outdoor pool, private harbour, tennis court and Irene Forte Spa create space for quieter days. Boat trips, culinary experiences and excursions through Palermo can be arranged for guests who wish to explore more of Sicily.
